CGCL Hosts Students from St. Joseph’s Convent (POS)

Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited (CGCL)  welcomed 38 students and 2 teachers from St. Joseph’s Convent Port of Spain, yesterday, (December 8, 2025), for an immersive educational experience and Plant tour, as part of the students’ CAPE, Unit 2, Assessment on Industry and the Environment. The visit offered students a unique opportunity to hear first-hand from the company’s experts, on its methanol synthesis and production process utilizing natural gas, and its safety and environmental performance, product testing process, and sustainability efforts.

The visit began with a comprehensive safety orientation delivered by Health and Safety Supervisor, Ronald Harripersad, followed by a warm welcome from the Corporate Affairs Manager, Elizabeth Warner Julien, who shared the company’s progression timeline, from inception to present day, showcasing the CGCL Journey video which delighted and amazed the students. Mrs. Warner Julien then engaged the group in an interactive question and answer segment that added further excitement to the morning, as students recalled key details from the presentations to win exclusive CGCL tokens.

The team was then handed over to the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Keio Kato, who welcomed the visitors to the Facility and set the tone for the day’s activities.

Next on the agenda was a presentation by Jerel Chablal, Process Engineer I, on methanol synthesis.  The students listened attentively as Mr. Chablal provided deep insights into the safe and reliable production of methanol at CGCL’s facility.

Shortly after Mr. Chablal’s presentation, the students were escorted via maxi taxis, on a guided drive-thru of CGCL’s operations, led by Shift Supervisors, Sookdeo Ramnaress and Karamchan Ramsumair.

The visit concluded with an engaging presentation and open-floor Q&A session with CGCL’s Technical Manager, Vanessa Poyer-Dipnarine, Environmental Supervisor, Lyandra Ramsamooj, Senior Laboratory Analyst, Lennox Sahadeo and Process Engineer I, Jerel Chablal. The students’ enthusiasm and curiosity made the experience both enriching and rewarding and we wish them all the best in their upcoming CAPE examinations.

The impact of the visit was best captured in feedback shared by one of the students:

I would like to thank you once again for accommodating my school on a tour of your plant. Personally, I gained a new appreciation for the organic chemical industry.

It was truly astounding to see the action in real life to what I had learned from the textbook as well as the operations involved. I was also impressed by the positive workplace culture you have fostered.

It was evident that your staff are dedicated and enjoy what they do.

Thanks again to you and your team for coordinating this insightful field trip. I wish you continued success and many more prosperous years ahead.
