Mechanical Engineer II (CMI)
As the Mechanical Engineer II (CMI) for this growing, dynamic company, your primary objectives are to:
- Provide technical guidance and apply the appropriate standards/regulations in the planning of maintenance activities/projects and inspection of equipment associated with Methanol/DME processing, production and export.
- Coordinate activities to ensure the reliability, efficiency, safety and availability of plant systems and equipment.
Principal Accountabilities
- Develop and execute strategies to eliminate repeat failures (manage defect elimination, identification of bad actors, Root Cause Failure Analysis, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, and Reliability Centered Maintenance) thereby improving asset integrity, reliability and availability of plant equipment while optimizing maintenance and operational costs.
- Analyzes, trends and interprets condition monitoring information and equipment inspection data/reports to make recommendations/decisions for corrective actions and improvements as required.
- Develops, maintains and implements equipment preventive maintenance, condition monitoring and reliability engineering practices for all plant equipment. Conducts annual review of the Mechanical Integrity program and equipment audits for continuous improvement.
- Provides technical assistance with the development of welding procedures, processes and materials technology.
- Adheres to the work management system and ensures that the CMMS system is accurately updated to capture real time information and historical data through regular audits. Minimizes backlog of work in area of responsibility.
- Supports technical planning by producing specific work plans using the CMMS and work management system.
- Improves and implements equipment performance monitoring systems and analyze downtime.
- Assists with conducting engineering investigations on catastrophic equipment failures.
- Make recommendations to improve the condition-based monitoring programs.
- Identify and support in solving engineering problems through diligent methods, utilizing improvement concepts and tools and apply best practices.
- Ensures that all mechanical planning and inspection work orders are closed out in the CMMS with the appropriate Fault Code Statistics and History reporting as per the Maintenance Policy.
- Support in producing Monthly Reports as required detailing the works carried out during the month and represent statistics on a graphical basis. (Backlog, Productivity and Efficiency KPI).
- Identifies opportunities for improvement and develop Memoranda of Justification (MOJ), Memoranda of Change (MOC) for equipment upgrade, replacement or modification.
- Manages all tools and test equipment within the guidelines of the company policy.
- Support the preparation of scope of works, contractor usage plan, tendering evaluation and analysis, procurement, execution and close-off.
- Monitors execution of routine contracts and turnarounds to ensure that general HSE, Quality and production targets are met.
- Ensures that all work performed is of the highest quality through the development of the requisite systems and audits.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities utilizing up-to-date changes in technology.
- Support in the preparation of annual budget implementing cost control practice consistent with the company objectives.
- Participates in equipment long term planning and obsolescence/end of life strategy.
- Fully understands the company HSE policy, procedures, regulations and objectives as they relate to area of responsibility. Ensures that all HSE policies and procedures are implemented and consistently followed.
- Executes responsibilities as designated in the permit to work system.
- Participates in HSE, Trip investigations, job hazard analyses and prepares the related reports as necessary tracking department actions as required.
- Ensure compliance with all ISO policies and procedures.
- Prepares technical, failure, monthly and other reports as required.
- Develop and build relationships and teamwork amongst employees.
- Respond to emergency call-outs on nights, weekends and holidays.
Education / Qualification
- BSc. in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University.
- Minimum of five (5) years in the Oil & Gas Industry with proven experience at handling inspection, maintenance and turnaround activities.
- Practical experience with applicable software’s such as scheduling (e.g. P6 etc.), planning (SAP/Maximo etc.) and inspection (vibration/infrared software etc.) would be considered an asset.
- PMP and/or CRE certification would be considered an asset.
