CGCL Humanitarian Relief Efforts – Hamper Drive
The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed the world and holds the record of the deadliest pandemic since the 1918 Spanish Flu. The virus wreaked havoc on unassuming victims and devastated the most fragile and vulnerable among us. Widespread loss of income, massive drops in remittances, and limited access to social safety nets combined to drive more significant numbers of people into vulnerability while worsening the conditions for many already receiving assistance.
The consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and other social and environmental challenges have adversely impacted upon the quality of life in Trinidad and Tobago, especially in “at-risk” communities such as La Brea. The high cost of living and rising unemployment rates have increased the vulnerabilities of many La Brea and nearby residents.
Against this background, Caribbean Gas Chemical Limited has launched eight (8) vital humanitarian relief programs since 2020 to support its host and neighbouring communities from La Brea to Vance River. With over 1,800 beneficiaries to date and approximately TT$1M spent, CGCL has directly engaged with the people most affected. The company adapted its relief efforts to meet the communities’ needs and improve their prospects.
Moving forward, CGCL will be working with local organizations to transform how we deliver aid across these communities, informed by the reality on the ground to deliver lasting impact. Our mission is always to make a difference in our host communities by investing in transformative ideas, institutions, and people that effectively address some of the communities’ most pressing challenges. We are CGCL – Caring, Giving, Changing Lives.
