CGCL’s CEO Judges Japanese Language Speech Contest.

On Friday 23rd August 2024, the Embassy of Japan and the Centre for Language Learning (CLL) at the University of the West Indies St. Augustine, hosted the 7th Annual Japanese Language Speech Contest. This event is organized for students studying Japanese and other Asian languages at CLL. This year, our Chief Executive Officer Mr. Keio Kato was invited to adjudicate as part of the esteemed panel of judges.

The contest featured an array of topics showcasing the students’ creativity and depth of knowledge of the Japanese language and culture. Participants’ presentations included discussions on trips to Japan, the impact of Japanese artists on their careers, as well as Japanese culture, philosophy, and cuisine. Mr. Kato remarked on the students’ exceptional talent and commitment, observing that their performances reflected the high standard of the Japanese Program at CLL.

Below is a listing of the event winners:

Category 1

  • First Place: Ms. Kadeisha Edwards – My Journey as a Mangaka (her love for Manga)
  • Second Place: Mr. Denzyl Evelyn – My Japanese Experience

Category 2

  • First Place: Mr. Matthias Elliot – Collaboration between Japan and Trinidad & Tobago in Green Hydrogen
  • Second Place: Mr. Nishan Rampersad – Japanese in Books, Music and Schools in Trinidad & Tobago
