Senior Mechanical Engineer (CMI)

As the Senior Mechanical Engineer (CMI) for this growing, dynamic company, your primary objectives are to:

  • Implement department policies, strategies, and programs in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Provide expertise and apply the appropriate standards/regulations in the inspection of equipment associated with methanol/DME processing, production, and export.
  • Coordinate activities to ensure the reliability, efficiency, safety and availability of plant systems and equipment.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Takes a leading role in Condition Monitoring and Inspection activities, providing on-site expertise for all associated activities relating to all related plant equipment (static/rotating).
  • Develops, maintains, and implements equipment preventive maintenance, condition monitoring and reliability engineering practices for all related plant equipment (static/rotating).
  • Performs planning and scheduling of CMI-specific routine activities, as well as CMI-specific tasks for routine work (preventative maintenance), turnarounds, major capital projects, overhaul, and repair programs in accordance with the Work Management System for all plant equipment minimizing downtime, while ensuring HSEQ and production targets are met.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the work management system, standard planning processes and procedures.
  • Adheres to the Work Management System and that the Computerized Maintenance Management System is accurately updated to capture real time information, lessons learnt and historical data through regular audits. Minimizes backlog of work in area of responsibility.
  • Conducts work order backlog management and cost reporting for routine, emergency and outage works in the work management system for the CMI team.
  • Develops, maintains, and implements equipment preventive maintenance, condition monitoring and reliability engineering practices for all related plant equipment (static/rotating) based on shared learning and new industry practices.
  • Performs audits on the Mechanical and Electrical Integrity programs and makes recommendations for improvement incorporating lessons learnt as required.
  • Develop and executes strategies to eliminate repeat failures (defect elimination, the identification of bad actors, Root Cause Failure Analysis, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, and Reliability Centered Maintenance) thereby improving asset integrity, reliability and availability of plant equipment while optimizing maintenance and operational costs.
  • Analyzes trends and interprets condition monitoring information and equipment inspection data/reports to make recommendations/decisions for corrective actions and improvements as required to the Plant Operations Team.
  • Develops and implements the required prerequisites for capital projects, equipment upgrades, replacement or modification as required.
  • Conducts technical evaluations and provides recommendations on purchase of critical spares and inventory items.
  • Provides technical guidance on welding procedures, processes, and materials technology.
  • Maintains and recommends condition monitoring and inspections tools and test equipment for the team.
  • Ensures all Condition Monitoring and Inspection and CMI-specific planning reports are submitted to the CMI Superintendent on a timely basis.
  • Engages in routine contract administration and management, preparation of contractor usage plan, scopes of work, tendering, procurement, execution, contractor evaluation/audits and close off.
  • Improves and implements equipment performance monitoring systems and analyzes downtime.
  • Lead engineering investigations into equipment failures.
  • Identify and support in solving engineering problems through diligent methods, utilizing improvement concepts and tools, and applying best practices.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and develop Memoranda of Change (MOC) for equipment upgrade, replacement, or modification.
  • Supports the CMI Superintendent in the preparation of Long-Term Planning (LTP) and annual budget.
  • Conducts safety walks, safety meetings and housekeeping inspections as required.
  • Executes responsibilities as designated in the permit to work system.
  • Participates in HSSE, Trip investigations, job hazard analyses and prepares the related reports as necessary tracking department actions as required.
  • Ensures compliance with all HSE and ISO policies and procedures.
  • Prepares technical, monthly, and other reports as required.

Education / Qualification

  • BSc. in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years in the Oil & Gas Industry with at least three (3) years at a supervisory level with proven experience at handling inspection/maintenance activities and turnaround management.
  • Professional membership with a recognized engineering body will be considered an asset (ASME, BOETT, APETT).
  • Professional Certification in condition monitoring and inspection techniques will also be considered an asset (API, ISO, ASNT).
