Mechanical Technician II

As a Mechanical Technician II for this growing, dynamic company, your primary objectives are to:

  • Perform condition monitoring, technical and practical maintenance work on all mechanical equipment systems and associated facilities in accordance with sound engineering standards and safe work practices.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Performs troubleshooting and maintenance activities on plant mechanical equipment i.e. pumps, compressors, fans, turbines, governors, piping.
  • Diagnose and repair faults/defects effectively on equipment and plant during breakdown ensuring that down time is minimized.
  • Performs basic care rounds, ensuring that all equipment is inspected for operational reliability / safety and to help plan for corrective maintenance in accordance with the required standards, codes, manuals and schedules.
  • Preparation of routine and non-routine job plans.
  • Performs and document maintenance and repair of mechanical and lifting equipment systems.
  • Collects condition monitoring data on plant rotating equipment such as vibration data collection, temperature surveys and oil sampling.
  • Supports to ensure the maintenance, calibration and certification of mechanical tools, test and lifting equipment (torque equipment, vibration analyzers, slings etc.) are conducted in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and statutory regulations.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and develop Memoranda of Justification (MOJ), Memoranda of Change (MOC) for equipment upgrade, replacement or modification.
  • Supports in maintaining an effective preventative maintenance program.
  • Obtain information or parameters from OEM sources to improve plant maintenance (vendor documentary information, instrument readings, and diagnostic equipment).
  • Ensures that standard safety procedures are followed during maintenance activities to prevent any personal injury or equipment and plant damage.
  • Adheres to the Work Management System and ensures that the Computerized Maintenance Management System is accurately updated to capture real time information, lessons learnt and historical data.
  • Support to administer the work management system including backlog management and cost reporting.
  • Participates in the development of maintenance strategies/procedures for installing /operating /maintaining installed new / upgraded equipment.
  • Continuously strives to reduce Stores inventory requirements by increasing reliability through predictive monitoring, scheduled and preventative maintenance.
  • Informs the Senior Maintenance Technician / Supervisors of any spare parts and tools that are needed to ensure timely completion of any maintenance works.
  • Ensures good housekeeping in the workshop and other work areas and take proper care of tools.
  • Manages all tools and test equipment within the guidelines of the company policy.
  • Plans maintenance jobs for routine and non-routine activities.
  • Assists mechanical engineers with project/RCFA implementation required to improve plant availability and reliability.
  • Participates in root cause analysis for operating problems including the identification of contributing causes for non-operating events and work to eliminate the root cause for continuous improvement.
  • Report equipment defects and abnormal conditions and complete failure reports as required.
  • Executes turnaround jobs in accordance with the schedule.
  • Responds to emergency call-outs as necessary.
  • Responsible for all Company assets and operations of the facility while on duty.
  • Leads by example by being a quality advocate.
  • Assist with achieving the department goals and objectives.
  • Generate maintenance reports as requested.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of HSE laws, policies and procedures as stated in the HSE Manual to ensure safety on the plant facility.
  • Conduct safety walks, safety meetings and housekeeping inspections as scheduled.
  • Comply with the specified HSE regulations while on the plant.
  • Comply with all ISO Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform all other related job functions as required.

Education / Qualification

  • Technician’s Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (NEC), National Engineering Technician Diploma (NETD) in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent from a recognized accredited institution.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a process plant environment functioning in the capacity of a Mechanical Technician
  • Candidate must possess experience in troubleshooting and maintenance activities on plant mechanical equipment.
